What are VTubers?
VTubers are streamers who use virtual avatars rather than a facecam during their videos. Most use 2D avatars but some use 3D models for their streams. The most popular VTubers are Japanese but there are also a lot of English speaking VTubers, and the scene is big in Inonesia. Most VTubers stream on YouTube as Twitch isn’t as big in Asia, but there are VTubers on Twitch too.
Hololive
Hololive is an ‘idol agency’ managed by Cover Corp. and is currently the most popular VTuber group. The talents of Hololive are separated into "Generation" based on when they started, also under Cover are Holostars the all-male counterpart to Hololive and INoNaKa Music.
Currently Hololive Indonesia Generation 2 is in the process of debuting, bringing three new VTubers to the group.

For a comprehensive post on Hololive please look here. (Note, I’m still working on this post, it’s not in the OP because that would make the OP enormous.)

Also, Hololive English is looking for a VSinger, someone who primarily does music and little to no streams, so if you’re a singer and want to get into the VTuber life you can check it out.
Vox Monster Project (VOMS)
VOMS is a group of independent VTubers scouted by GYARI, a vocaloid producer and artist, because he wanted more VTubers to watch. Each member of VOMS is free to do what they want, though they often collaborate with each other. Their characters were all designed by GYARI and they have a unique art style. Also, GYARI thought people would pronounce VOMS as “Bonz” for some reason. So, you can call it Bonz if you really want to.

Amano Pikamee
Pikemee is the most well-known VOMS VTuber. Being the only English speaker of the trio, she gets a lot of attention from overseas fans. She does English streams once a week but also often throws in English during her regular streams. She tries to keep everyone informed of the important stuff. She is a very family friendly streamer who definitely doesn’t say words like fuck or shit.

Tomoshika Hikasa
Tomoshika is a high energy girl, she often does collaborations and sometimes plays games with her brother on stream.

Jitomi Monoe
Monoe is a more mellow streamer, compared to Pikamee and Tomoshika, she also speaks with a much more natural voice than most VTubers.
Nijisanji
Nijisanji is a group of VTubers managed by Ichikara Inc. they are the second biggest VTuber group and have a ton of members. More than could easily fit into a single post if they were to be described. I also know very little about them, to be honest.

The most popular Nijisanji VTuber in these parts is Hana Macchia, a member of Nijisanji Indonedia, she streams in English, Japanese and Indonesian and is the self-proclaimed "smallest brained VTuber". Her dad also pops into her streams occasionally to both encourage her and mock her relentlessly.

Another popular Nijisanji VTuber is Ange Katrina, though I don't know anything about her, I just felt she should be mentioned.
A.I. Channel
Kizuna Ai
Kizuna Ai exploded in popularity in 2017 and kickstarted the VTuber trend. Not the first or the biggest VTuber, but definitely one of the most influential. She usually does shorter, more heavily edited videos along with live streams.
AI Games
The Kizuna Ai gaming channel. Ai streams games regularly and uploads shorter, edited videos of singleplayer games. She also has her own VR game called Touch the Beat, which is similar to Beat Saber, which is Oculus exclusive AFAIK.
Love Chan
Originally a ’clone’ of Kizuna Ai, she is now her own fully fledged VTuber. Unlike Ai she uses a Live2D avatar instead of a 3D avatar.
Independent VTubers
Not every VTuber is a part of a big group. Some are out there trying to make it on their own. You should definitely give them a shot if you seem interesting, they need it more than the big channels.

Golden Dragon / BrimstoneD0G
Our very own Golden Dragon is a VTuber over on Twitch. They have a thread here where they post updates and take advice. If you want to see a hellhound shoot people in the face, well I don’t know anywhere else you can go.

Inky Swirls (on Twitch)
Inky’s YouTube channel, Self-made VTuber and poster on this very website, she does casual gameplay streams and describes herself as trying to have a Vinesauce-vibe.

Artemis of the Blue
A shark VTuber who is pretty alright at Mario Kart and likes to call her stream ‘scuffed’ at the slightest issue. She’s pretty chill but she can struggle to maintain a one-sided conversation when chat isn’t replying to her quickly.

Nelly the Virtual Revolutionary
Nelly, along with her occasional counterpart Alter, is a VTuber who speaks Japanese, English, and some Russian. She plays games on stream, creates her own 3D animated shorts, and produces essays on the failings of capitalism.

Viola Twilight
A small Vtuber with a Gothic style, she likes to play horror games (or she started doing streams more during October so most of her videos are horror games right now). She’s usually quite nervous but she has been getting more talkative recently.

Just in case anyone else missed and or misses it since it was the last post in the last thread, a live translation extension has been created that sorts out the live TL's from the rest of the chat!

Also, GYARI thought people would pronounce VOMS as “Bomuzu” for some reason. So, you can call it Bomuzu if you really want to.
Uh, akshually, it's because V and B are the same in Japanese, so when you pronounce the word in the syllable-based Japanese language, it's vo-mu-zu, or bomuzu. But more importantly, he thought that people would pronounce it "bonz" but nobody including the v-tubers themselves got the memo so Gyari had to hold a press conference changing the official spelling to match the way everybody kept saying it.

So it's less that he thought people would pronounce it that way and more that it's the default way to say it as structured in the language.

A lot of it is cause Youtube is way more popular in Japan compared to Twitch, at least that's my knowledge of it.

twitch is becoming more unusable by the day, but even youtube sucks balls, the entire website lags for a good couple seconds when you try pulling out the emotes list, it's insane how stuff like that happens
